MARCH 7-10, 2016

On the days we had to report for work we had to drive an hour to get the construction site where we helped build affordable housing. More long car rides but this time the landscape went from mountains to desert, which was an interesting transition. It was so amazing to see the beautiful sun rising and setting over the desert plateaus with snowy mountains in the background. I now understand why they told us to pack for both warm and cold weather when preparing for the trip. The state of Utah has both cold mountains and hot deserts, which accounts for the extreme temperatures.

For our service project we had to help build housing for a families enduring hard times. We got to assist with things like laying down the foundation of the house, nailing down the roof, installing walls, etc. We did hard work but the feeling of gratitude one of the families had shown to us definitely made it worth it. It was amazing to see how the organization would build these energy efficient houses so that it would be affordable for the families. It was hard work that would make us very tired by the end of the day. And everyday when we got back to the cabin we were greeted by our big fluffy watch dog. Every night after dinner, we would have group meetings and talk about how the day went for everyone. Our group leaders had us pick one positive and one negative thing about the day we wanted to bring to the attention of the group. I enjoyed these meetings because it allowed the group to talk freely and open up about different things.
